Embody gratitude.

Often we let our circumstances dictate our situation. In the moment, we allow our decision to be influenced by our mood, our instant reaction. If we rely on a wavering source of support for our day to day we make the mistake of thinking that our lives are incapable of experiencing goodness and gratitude in every moment.

Occasionally I’ve fallen for the idea that the circumstances I am currently in should dictate my life. In hindsight, this way of thinking brings about feelings of frustration, insecurity, and dismay. Choosing to see the good in our surroundings is not an easy decision, but it does become easier the more we choose it. Each time we look back at those moments we realize that ‘choosing good’ is what made them good. Being grateful is a concept I find myself struggling to remember, especially when my circumstances are far from gracious.

grateful:
-feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness; thankful.
- received or experienced with gratitude; welcome.

gratitude:
- the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

The beauty of gratitude is simply expressing sincere and honest thanks. Gratitude does not come from a place of deceit or pretense. It isn’t one of those fake it till you make it things; it is a choice to alter your point of view. Gratitude is finding the good and appreciating that good, no matter how small it may seem. A grateful individual is someone that responds to the circumstances of life by appreciating the glimmer of hope that remains even in the midst of uncertainty. Catching even a glimpse of that optimism can transform our outlook on what is to come and allows us to respond with thanks and appreciation.

Return kindness.
Appreciate the little things.
Say thank you.
Be gracious.

Let’s be people who embody gratitude.
