Late nights for
me began in high school, while I finished up homework and projects after the
midnight hour. I like to think that I put the “pro” in procrastination. Getting
things done the night before was my specialty. On occasion, it still is.
Anyways, staying up late has become the norm ever since.
In fact, right
now as I am typing this post, it’s 1:31am. Yup. It’s late, why am I still
awake? Sometimes my brain refuses to shut down and thoughts keep racing through
my mind. Tonight in fear of losing them I started writing, hoping to jot down
enough pieces of an idea to come back to it in the morning in case I fall
asleep at the keyboard. A sentence here, a blurb there, and bits of ideas come when I least expect them to. Even while the rest of the world is catching some Zzzzzzs, the time to write feels perfect.
The night hours have
become my time to unwind, read a book, watch a show, relax, type up a blog
post, or recharge.
The glow of a
single bedside lamp as I finish the next chapter of a captivating novel. The
silent tick of the clock as the night moves on. Catching my breath after a
hectic day. Treasuring a few hours at the end of my day when the rest of the
world is asleep and I can simply be.
At the end of the day...the night owl thing works for me.
